Data protection Institute

Data Protection Institute is a leading provider of specialized training and certification programs in data protection and information security. Founded in 2012, DPI is dedicated to educating and empowering Data Protection Officers (DPOs) with practical, high-quality courses delivered by seasoned professionals. Their offerings include in-depth training on GDPR compliance, data protection technologies, and privacy by design, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to tackle contemporary data protection challenges.

“Our 'Stay Tuned' program is a cornerstone of DPI, ensuring that members, DPOs, and privacy professionals stay informed on the latest GDPR and data privacy developments. With nearly 20 quarters of valuable training content, it was crucial to make these resources searchable. Partnering with Unikoo, whose swift, professional, and flexible approach enabled us to achieve this, has significantly enhanced the accessibility of our sessions,” said Peter Berghmans, CEO at DPI.

Unlocking unstructured data for enhanced community value

Data Protection Institute aims to significantly increase the added value for its community. They possess a wealth of unstructured data in the form of presentations and videos that are not easily searchable. DPI's primary objective is to create a platform that unlocks this data by making it searchable, thus enhancing its accessibility and utility.

Combining business-knowhow with full-stack development and AI engineering expertise

DPI approached Unikoo due to our proven expertise in full-stack development and AI engineering across multiple projects in different domains. Our comprehensive approach offered DPI both hands-on validation of proof of concepts and co-creation of the businesscase through methods such as interviewing test-users to gauge their willingness to use and pay for the platform.

What we did: from POC to MVP

Unikoo developed the initial Proof of Concept (POC) and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for DPI. Our services included performing both functional and technical analysis, alongside user-interviews to co-create the business case. We adopted a modular approach, iterating through every stage of the platform development: from data ingestion, logical chunking, embedding information, to making it searchable.

Main challenges: multi-language support and modular solution architecture

The project presented several significant challenges:

  • Supporting multiple input languages and ensuring search results include all these languages.
  • Handling multi-modal data, encompassing both spoken text and presentations.
  • Adapting to rapid technological evolution, necessitating a modular approach where every part of the solution architecture is replaceable.

Our team iteratively developed the platform, ensuring each module —from data ingestion to information embedding— was independently functional and replaceable. This approach allowed us to adapt swiftly to technological advancements and specific project needs.

Results and impact: validated platform with user feedback

We successfully validated the crucial components of the platform within a limited timeframe. The test panel and DPI were impressed by the platform's results and the vast possibilities offered by the technology. The project demonstrated that with a focused and modular approach, significant advancements could be achieved quickly and efficiently.

Based on the project's success, DPI and Studio Fledge plan to continue their collaboration. The next phase involves working towards a production-ready version of the platform, ensuring it meets the high standards required for wide-scale deployment.
